Grief

It was a single moment

That I couldn’t save you

Felt your spirit sail across the broken ground

And whirl around the silence

Breaking it into a howl

It was the howl of grief

That gathered source

And smothered me

My fingers on your cheek

Haunt me in dark spilled nights

When the light is taken over

A single moment

When on my knees beside you

I felt you

Felt you leaving

And couldn’t save you
