Payback!

It was your mother’s tears
That burst the dam
Of hidden bitter secrets
Surrounding you
It was the wild fear
In your fathers eyes
That alerted you to the power you held.

Heart beating loud
Painful inside you
The monster,
Born unknown to you
Bubbling under the surface
Of your soul
Waits, biding its time
Before rising from its grave
Buried alive for too long
Every fist you’d ever tasted
Showered by them upon you
Returned once, twice,
Ten times
Till anger flowed a river
From your heart
Mixing their blood
Their tears
Their fears

You stop, you look
The monster lies calm within you

  1. Wow this is really deep. I think we can interpret this a many ways. It struck a cord with me because I was in an abusive relationship and your words just resolved a few lingering thoughts. I really like your writing style and I am glad that you will keep writing! :)
