While you read us the story
Of long hair tossed down to a lover
We heard your voice crack and bleed
Like the paint peeling from the walls
Around us
And you tried to hide it
With tales of a kiss saving a life
Almost lost from the bite of a poisioned apple
But the cracks got stronger
Till your breaking heart
Revealed itself in the shadowed light
And you tucked the crumbling
Blankets under our chin
Tighter and tighter
Leaving us wondering what
Would save and keep us
Cuddled together
