The cruelest emotion

It played a game, love
Took me on a path of thinking
That it was the one emotion needed
To survive us

Love, I felt it for you, gave it to you
Drew you a map of my heart
Allowed your touch to mark my body

But I didn't know it wouldn't last
I didn't need to paint tears on my face
The lonesome cries of the night
Mourn what we once were
Even the shadows cry for us

Maybe it wasn't my failings that failed us
Maybe you didn't love me enough
Maybe I loved you too much

When the pain lessens to a dull ache
Ask yourself who failed who
